About us

Chosen Family Elder Services, LLC, is a small, family-owned business in Decatur, GA, assisting elders across the Atlanta region with a variety of tasks and needs. Older adults are as unique and individual as other people; every situation and circumstance is different. Thus, we founded our company to provide a concierge approach where we could meet with each person or family to determine a la carte services, filling in gaps not already being met by family members or care managers as needed.

Meet the Team

Laura Davis, PhD

Founder / Owner

Member of American Association of Daily Money Managers

Laura Davis grew up near Charlotte, NC in a rural environment with a large extended family. Many of her formative childhood memories are of watching her grandmothers, aunts, and mother tenderly and patiently caring for elderly relatives in times of need. These lasting impressions gave her a lifelong appreciation for the skill and compassion that "daughter work" tasks like these entail. She pursued her higher education with a BA from Wake Forest University, an MA from Middle Tennessee State University, and a PhD from Georgia State University.

Laura has called Atlanta home since 2002. She has served for 24 years as a professor at a local University with a focus on gender and women's studies and was twice named outstanding teacher of the year for the entire campus, once for traditional in class teaching and once for online teaching. Her passion and expertise is in helping women in particular, but also all people, during vulnerable life transitions - whether helping a college freshman arriving on campus or encouraging and assisting those who are moving into the last decades of their lives. Laura was one of the original professors who helped found a Gender and Women's Studies Program on her university, which she later coordinated for several years, and thus brings decades of experience and creative solutions to the challenges facing women at different life stages. She has published and/or taught extensively on the topics of women and financial literacy, motherhood, caregiving, the economic realities of aging, and making the outdoors accessible to all, including seniors and/or those with mobility challenges. She has two school-aged daughters who share her love for the outdoors.

Sheri Burton

CDL Certified
Transportation Specialist
Home Technology & Improvements Manager

Sheri Burton grew up in the Atlanta area and attended Georgia Southwestern and Kennesaw State University. A lifelong car enthusiast, she spent many hours as a teenager rebuilding vintage autos and winning awards at national car shows. This passion ultimately led her to follow her father and join the thriving Georgia film industry where she became a sought-after professional driver for many talented actors and directors. Sheri has worked as a CDL-certified driver on over sixty television and film productions in Atlanta, Savannah, and surrounding areas. This includes driving cast and VIPs on fifteen Marvel productions and multiple seasons of The Walking Dead. Her credits include serving as the designated cast driver for Kevin Bacon, Angela Bassett, Emily Blunt, Rose Byrne, Don Cheadle, Danai Gurira, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Owen Wilson, and many more names you would recognize.

When she is not working on film sets, Sheri enjoys giving community elders the red-carpet treatment just as she has to so many stars. Being a professional driver in Atlanta for this many years means she readily knows backroad shortcuts to avoid traffic, how to keep her passengers feeling comfortable, safe, and entertained in a variety of situations -- whether they are disembarking anywhere from The Fox Theatre to their doctors' offices. Both of Sheri's parents are in their 80's, and one is in assisted living, so she knows first-hand how important it is to have caring drivers and caretakers for them when she is working and cannot be there. She is experienced with transporting those who use wheelchairs and/or other mobility devices, and is committed to giving the same level of care and safety she would want for her own family members to each and every client. Additionally, Sheri is skilled at helping clients with minor home improvement projects - hanging televisions, painting, small repairs, helping to curate a smart home, installing alarm systems, cameras, and offering assistance with other technology setup and support. Sheri is the proud mother of an adult daughter and grandmother to a two-year-old grandson.

Wanda Davis, MT

Project Manager
Outdoor Activities Director

Wanda Davis grew up as the eldest daughter of five children, which gave her not only a sense of humor and plenty of resilience but also the lifetime skill of great patience and a penchant for compassionate caregiving. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina Charlotte, and then completed her post-graduate training to become a Medical Technologist. She spent her professional years at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte and multiple medical clinics, honing skills needed to help patients as they faced difficult diagnoses or life crises.

Following many years in hospital and laboratory settings, she transitioned to work in both adult and pediatric psychiatric units, where she spent hours sitting at the bedsides of patients who needed the care and comfort of a safety attendant following trauma. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Wanda is proud of the end-of-life care she has provided for multiple family members, including her own elderly mother, especially through the pandemic era. An avid camper and outdoor adventurer, she has hiked many trails in the Great Smoky Mountains and beyond and feels passionately about helping community elders continue to experience nature through guided walks, assisted gardening, and other outdoor activities no matter what their mobility level. She has two adult children, three grandchildren who do no wrong, and resides in Decatur.
